The National Institute of Standards and Technology defines a cyber incident as “actions taken through the use of an information system or network that result in an actual or potentially adverse effect on an information system, network, and/or the information residing therein” which is a much more thorough definition than saying, “you’ve been hacked.” Regardless of the terminology, being prepared for when an incident does occur takes time and forethought. In an era where cyber incidents are on the rise, ensuring you have a cyber incident response plan means you know how to respond to a serious security incident, such as a data breach, data leak, ransomware attack, or loss of sensitive information.
