Oregon Translational Research and Drug Development Institute (OTRADI)
OTRADI brings the lab to the market via partnerships with Oregon university researchers, private bioscience businesses, the life science industry, and public and private funders.
Launched in 2007, OTRADI is an Oregon Signature Research Center dedicated to scientific collaboration and the commercialization of pharmaceutical drug discoveries to combat human diseases. OTRADI rapidly screens thousands of chemical compounds developed by Oregon research laboratories and companies to identify new potential drugs, speeding progress on bioscience discoveries, and bringing more economic development, grant funding and scientific talent to Oregon. OTRADI's specialized high-throughput and high-content robotic equipment is unique in the Northwest, offering previously out-of-reach drug screening capabilities as well as the expertise necessary to analyze results and quickly identify the best products to commercialize.
Partnering with OTRADI under a fee-for-service model, Oregon researchers leverage OTRADI's cutting-edge world-class scientific equipment and expertise to reach medical and commercial goals:
- discovering effective solutions for emerging and persistent dieseases and health concerns worldwide,
- attracting additional and new federal and private funding to Oregon universities and small businesses,
- increasing the speed, number, and quality of scientific products commercialized in Oregon, and
- translating these products into new Oregon-based biotech companies, resulting in a net increase in high-paying sustainable jobs.
OTRADI leverages its core assets and capabilities—the Oregon Collection novel compound library, several large commercially-available compound libraries, a state-of-the-art, high-throughput screening system capable of testing tens of thousands of compounds per day; cutting-edge, high-content screening and analysis for drug mechanism of action studies; and an arsenal of experimental assays designed to effectively screen compounds for activity against a plethora of human disease targets to produce the value-added experimental data necessary to fuel drug discovery and commercialization in Oregon.
OTRADI uses the unique and valuable experimental drug discovery assets to accelerate and optimize connections between university researchers and biopharmaceutical companies, with the end goal of increasing production of licensable technologies, including lead compounds, vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics.
